Have You Something I Can Hold On To?
Have You something I can hold on to
when the wind is working to carry the trees away?
And what am I to do when my boat is half sunk?
I am hopeful for morning,
but when it comes it brings gray
No sun I can see
peeking over mountains,
not today.
I’ve tried continuing on with a steady pace
but it’s difficult to move
when gusts push, and freeze,
and fight, and discourage.
I need hope, a promise, courage, strength
I do not want to exist in shadows
I want to dance in the sun
I want the rain to point to provision,
and not to gloom.
Gift me with gratitude
Cover me with feathers
Show me the stars
when the clouds have crept up on the moon.
Have You something I can hold on to
when the world brings chaos
and I am not sure what good is anymore
I think I know,
but in silence, where eyes cannot see,
I search for peace.
Have You something?
“Quiet, still, hush, wait . . .”
I can do that.
“Pray, give, love . . .”
I can do that.
“Stop, halt, listen . . .”
I can do that.
“Me.”
