A Trip to Tahoe

Tahoe

Giant dandelions,
as big as my fist
If there, they are
I’m not likely to miss

And, if I see
a new creature to me
Like a bright, orange fish
that’s in river, not sea
I’m astounded once more
at the things He’s made be

Then, when the wind
blows straight through my face
When the air that I breathe
feels like an embrace
I’m reminded once more
that there is a place
Where someday I’ll see God,
one day, face to Face

His Care In All Things

His Care In All Things

When an ant, carries
When wind moves the leaves
When palm branches creak
And when birds nest in trees

When pine needles fall
When stars, they sit right
When sunrise, it beams
And moon claims the night

When a creature is born
or yet, born and made new
From a worm to a butterfly
wings, purple and blue

It’s these things
All these things
remind me of You
and the care that You take
in all things that You do

“Those who live at the ends of the earth stand in awe of your wonders.
From where the sun rises to where it sets, you inspire shouts of joy.” – Psalm 65:8

Better Land

Better Land

I see Him in the rays of sun
that cast a warm, pink glow
I find Him in the crispy cold
that chills my face and toes

I see Him in the melty blues
in lakes below the trees
Where mountains shoot from land to sky
and gift us snowy peaks

He formed the creatures, and the moon
He put the stars in place
He grows the seedling from the earth
moves wind across my face

He’s here, and knows your every thought
the things you’ve always kept
safe, away from diggers deep
where, with folded wings you wept

To restless hearts, He gives new hope
and reaches out a Hand
As we leave our burdens there
and move to better land

“In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him.” – Psalm 95:4

At The Quieting of the Day

Lately, I’ve been finding myself sitting at my computer in front of the window at just the right time of day to enjoy twilight.  Glowing patterns are created across the sky, and the sounds of the day lessen until I can hear the water fountain running, from across the street.  The muffled sound of a plane flying in the distance reminds me of how big the world is, and at the same time I notice how easily palm branches move in the wind…they don’t fight it.  Then, a single bird chirps, as if he is the last of his fleet to find out that the day is coming to a close.  Twilight is a gift, when the quieting of the day draws my attention not only to the wonderful things that have been made, but to the One Who so kindly made them.

“Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You
created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.” – Revelation 4:11

When Jesus Spoke and There Was Calm

andreas-achenbach-85762_1280Have you ever been inside of a small airplane when it’s being jostled by a storm?  Have you ever walked into a wind so strong that it redirects you?  Have you ever observed a dark, stormy ocean from shore?  All of these things are reminders that nature is beyond our control.  But that was not the case with Jesus.  When Jesus and his disciples were in a boat and encountered an intense storm, the Bible says that Jesus “rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm.” (Matthew 8:26)  Jesus displayed His sovereignty, even over nature.

“The disciples were amazed.  “Who is this man?” they asked.  “Even the winds and waves obey him!” – Matthew 8:27

Where Water Meets The Sky

beach-1853442__480To me, the ocean is beautiful and another example of the power and goodness of God.  He made it pleasing to the eyes and filled it with interesting creatures.  It showcases His glory every night as the sun sinks below the horizon.  It serves as a playground for those who ride its waves, and as an education for others who study its currents (my grandpa did both!).  It’s where seagulls gather and where tiny crabs burrow into the sand.  But more than that, it is a reminder that although things appear to stop, like where water meets the sky, that is only an illusion.

“He has made everything beautiful in its time.  He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” – Ecclesiastes 3:11
